Electrolysis Pre & Post Care
Electrolysis Pre & Post Care
Permanent Choice limits the procedures that are offered to women who are pregnant. If you are currently pregnant or become pregnant during your course of treatments please let us know in advance. We may need to modify or postpone your treatments until after you give birth.
For all hair removal treatments, if you have not seen hair regrowing in the treatment area please contact us a minimum of two days in advance of your appointment to reschedule. We will push your appointment one to two weeks into the future in order to wait for the new growth to appear.
For electrolysis we need there to be three to four days of hair growth present when you arrive to each of your sessions. Once you begin sessions you can no longer tweeze, wax, epilate or thread the area being treated. We recommend not tweezing for four days to two weeks prior to your first treatment. Please contact us by phone or speak with your technician on the duration of time since you last tweezed and your first visit at Permanet Choice.
Chemical peels or facials should be avoided one week before and one week after treatment of the same area. The Vi Peel and TCA peels should be avoided two weeks before and two weeks after your electrolysis treatment.
Treatments should be repeated every two to four weeks for maximum effectiveness. Electrolysis works best when the hairs are in the active growing phase. For the maximum result we recommend not waiting more than two to three weeks once you have seen the new hair growth appear.
If you have a history of cold sores, electrolysis and laser around the mouth may trigger this to occur. If you would like to take preventative action or feel a cold sore developing we are able to call in an Acyclovir prescription for you. When calling please let us know your date of birth and the pharmacy where you would like to pick up your prescription.
Adverse reactions are very rare and can be unpredictable. Due to this, we will not perform a procedure two weeks prior to a special event (e.g. wedding, reunion, interview, etc).
Please arrive ten minutes early to fill out the electrolysis consent card. The card will be set out for you and please begin filling it out when you arrive.
Day Of Procedure:
If applicable, apply numbing cream 30-60 minutes prior to treatment. Your technician will remove the product prior to treatment.
After receiving electrolysis it is normal for the area to be red and slightly swollen. Avoid activities that subject the treated area to heat, sun, irritation, dirt or dust for 72 hours post treatment.
Please read and follow the below instructions:
Keep the area clean. Breakouts (whiteheads) will occur if bacteria enters the open follicles. We recommend using a skin cleanser daily such as Hibiclens, witch hazel, or alcohol to keep the area clean.
Avoid touching the area. If scabs form, it is very important that you do not pick or scratch because scarring, hyper-pigmentation (i.e. darkening), and hypo-pigmentation (i.e. lightening) may occur. If scabs appear (scabs are lymph fluid that has drained out of the follicle and dried) allow them to fall off naturally. DO NOT PICK.
Keep the area moist. Bacitracin should be applied for 24 hours post treatment. Neosporin is not recommended. If you experience redness lasting longer than 24 hours, apply a 1% hydrocortisone cream. Hydrocortisone is an anti-inflammatory and will reduce redness and swelling.
Apply sunscreen daily. Avoid UV exposure for 72 hours post treatment to prevent hyper-pigmentation.
Apply only mineral-based cosmetics to the treatment area for 48 hours. Makeup should be fresh and purchased within the last 90 days. New sponge applicators and clean brushes should be used.
Avoid harsh products and topical medications in the treatment area five days before and after treatment.
Contact us at 952-898-1111 or firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions. All appointments must be canceled or rescheduled 24 hours in advance to not incur the cancellation fee.
