Microdermabrasion & Peels available in our Apple Valley, Eden Prairie, Mankato, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Savage & White Bear Lake Locations!

Microdermabrasion is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that removes the topmost layer of dead skin cells restoring it to its natural smoothness and health. Our Microdermabrasion systems require no down time, normal activities may be resumed immediately.

Microdermabrasion is generally suggested for:

  • Reduction of minor to moderate early aging fine lines

  • Diminish sun and age spots (10-12 treatments to start)

  • Oily to Leathery skin texture

  • Minimizing the appearance of enlarged pores

  • Extraction of blackheads and whiteheads

  • Hyperpigmentation reduction

  • Keratosis Pilaris

  • Enhances the overall health and appearance of the skin

Chemical Peels

Chemical peel uses a chemical solution to improve and smooth the texture of the facial skin by removing its damaged outer layers. It is helpful for those individuals with facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation.

Alphahydroxy acids (AHAs), such as glycolic, lactic, or fruit acids are the mildest of the peel formulas and are used exclusively at the Permanent Choice. These types of peels can provide smoother, brighter-looking skin for people who can't spare the time to recover from a phenol or trichloroacetic acid (TCA) peel. AHA peels may be used to treat fine wrinkling, areas of dryness, uneven pigmentation and acne. A series of appointments are needed. We recommend that clients begin with a series of 4-6 treatments repeated every two weeks to start.

Depending on your needs we offer a Glycolic/Lactic acid (gel) peel which is best for sun damage, age spots, and more damaged skin. The Sesderma MediDerma peel line that we carry includes Carol & Tammy's favorite! the 40% Mandelic Acid peel which is best for active acne. We also have two varieties of the Melaspeel (Melaspeels have Kojic acid for the treatment of melasma). For more information please contact us at 952-898-1111.

Microdermabrasion Process

The technician steadily moves the wand over the target area, applying even and steady pressure. A standard session usually consists of one to three passes with the wand.

Microdermabrasion starts at $50 ($55 for the crystal microderm) to $85 for the microdermabrasion including chemical peel (glycolic/lactic acid or salicylic/mandelic acid), cooling enzyme mask, and extractions per session (additional services may be available in combination with your microdermabrasion session). Repeating the microdermabrasion and peel is typically recommended every month to every two months after the intial series of appointments.

Immediately following the treatment you skin may look slightly flushed and will return to normal in 10 to 30 minutes. Your skin will look and feel smoother and more youthful and will continue to improve through the treatments.

The Final Result
Smoother, healthier and younger-looking skin, and when used regularly* along with the SkinCeuticals products the results are increased and better maintained.

*Treatment series vary from four to twelve sessions depending on the condition(s) being treated and type of skin. Maintenance Microdermabrasion treatments throughout ones' lifetime is recommended.

Microdermabrasion Options

The Permanent Choice offers three unique Microdermabrasion machines to customize to the skin and treatment needs of our diverse cliental. Your skin care professional will recommend which system is right for your skin and treatment needs. Your esthetician can also recommend a variety of peels to enhance your Microdermabrasion treatments.

Microdermabrasion systems fall into two categories Partical vs Non-Partical Systems:

Dermasante™ - Standard Particle System

The crystal method and suction process- traditional method - in these devices is called Venturi suction . It is a two circuit method, one to shoot the crystals out and another to collect them.

.................................................................................................

DiamondTome™ - Diamond - Particle Free Wands

New systems like the Diamondtome use single, diamond-tip wand on the skin instead of a stream of particles. These systems do not have the mess and crystal irritation that can accompany particle systems. Non-crystal systems are also better in treatment of active/ongoing acne.

The Ultrasonic Facial - the DermaSound Plus™

Offered in our White Bear Lake/Vadnais Heights Location and can be used in combination with the Dermasante™ system.

This "Ultrasonic Facial" process is gentle, non-invasive, safe and suitable for all skin types, from Acne to Rosacea and Mature skin. Even the most senstitive skin will benefit from DermaSound treatments without any significant erythema (redness) as a result of the treatment. Any erythema that does occur diminishes rapidly after treatment. DermaSound Plus

The DermaSound Plus™ Facial is a complete facial that employs ultrasound frequency to:

  • exfoliate dead skin cells for a clearer, healthier complexion without the redness and irritation sometimes associated with Microdermabrasion;

  • loosen and remove oil, dirt and cellular debris from follicles for cleaner, healthier skin. Pores diminish in size and bacteria levels are reduced;

  • gently stimulate skin to produce collagen and elastin. Fine lines and wrinkles are diminished; skin is restored to a smooth, youthful glow and maintained with regular treatments;

  • aid in penetrating skin care products deep into the skin. Less product is required, and it is more effective as it penetrates and acts deep within the skin;

DermaSound Plus is particularly effective
in treating the following skin conditions:

Acne
The ultrasound vibration helps to break-up follicular deposits of oil, dirt and dead cells — a veritable breeding ground for bacteria. Ultrasonic frequency has been shown to kill bacteria and decongest the pores resulting in cleaner, healthier skin.

Fine Lines & Wrinkles
DermaSound helps stimulate and promote collagen and elastin production for more youthful skin. It also helps with hydration. The "plumping" of the skin fills out fine lines and wrinkles.

Sensitive Skin
Yes, this is an excellent treatment for sensitive skin, even those with Rosacea. Pure, filtered water and hydrating serum is used during the Peel Phase. It is gentle and non-irritating. During the Infusion Phase, only products formulated for sensitive skin are used. No longer will your sensitive skin and/or Rosacea prevent you from exfoliating!

Anatomy of Microdermabrasion

Your skin is made up of two main layers, the epidermis and the dermis . The epidermis is the layer closest to the outside world. It's a set of dead skin cells on top of another layer of cells that are in the process of maturing. The topmost layer is called the stratum corneum . The stratum corneum mostly acts as a barrier between the outside world and the lower skin layers. It keeps all but the smallest molecules from getting through.

When you put lotions or creams on your skin, some of the moisture passes through the stratum corneum, but not all of it. This layer is home to many minor skin imperfections like fine wrinkle lines and blemishes.

All of the action in microdermabrasion takes place at the level of the stratum corneum. Since it only really targets the epidermis (and not the dermis), it is more accurate to call it micro-epi-dermabrasion.

This process has a few beneficial effects. With the stratum corneum gone, the skin's surface is improved. The healing process brings with it newer skin cells that look and feel smoother. Some of the skin's visible imperfections, like sun damage, blemishes and fine lines, are removed in a series of treatments. Also, without the stratum corneum acting as a barrier, medicinal creams and lotions are more effective because more of their active ingredients and moisture can find their way down to the lower layers of skin. As microdermabrasion temporarily removes some moisture from the skin, it is always followed by the application of moisturizing creams.

Early studies suggest that repeated microdermabrasion treatment at regular intervals may influence the way the lower layers of skin grow, as well, removing deeper blemishes over time. Some evidence seems to indicate that the rapid loss of skin moisture may be what triggers the lower skin layers to work overtime in speeding healthy cells up to the surface.
